You want to apply for a DigiD because you live abroad and are not registered at a residential address in The Netherlands.

Please note! After your request you will not receive a letter, but only a service desk code. With this code you can go to one of the DigiD service desks [opens in a new window] to receive your DigiD activation code within 30 days (Dutch time). You may have to make an appointment first.

Apply a DigiD from abroad, you will need the following:

  • the Dutch nationality
  • a valid Dutch passport or a valid Dutch identity card
  • a citizen service number (BSN) / personal number
  • a registration in the Non-residents Records Database (RNI) [opens in a new window]
  • a telephone number which you can use to receive SMS messages
  • an e-mail address
