Apply for DigiD (abroad)

You want to apply for a DigiD because you live abroad and are not registered at a residential address in the Netherlands.

Attention please! After your request you will not receive a letter, but only a service desk code. Bring this code with you to one of the DigiD service desks [opens in a new window] within thirty days (Dutch time) to receive your DigiD activation code. You may have to make an appointment first.

To apply for a DigiD from abroad, you will need the following:

  • the Dutch nationality or the nationality of another country in the European Economic Area (EEA)
  • a valid passport or identity card of an EEA-country
  • a citizen service number (BSN) / personal number
  • a registration in the Non-residents Records Database (RNI) [opens in a new window]
  • a telephone number which you can use to receive SMS messages
  • an email address
